Exercise for anxiety and depression

I love this blog post from Haley Perry about how exercising works for people with anxiety or depression for two reasons. First off, I appreciate Haley’s honesty about her own anxiety.

As Haley explains:

“People who don’t have depression or anxiety have a hard time understanding it. They don’t know what it feels like, why it happens, or why we can’t help it. But I know how it works, and I know that exercise can help.”

The second thing I like is that Haley clearly outlines what she considers the seven benefits of exercise for someone with anxiety or depression. In her eyes, those benefits are:

  1. Release of endorphins
  2. Normalizes sleep
  3. Brain health
  4. Mimics “panic” episodes
  5. More confidence
  6. Mind clearing
  7. Healthy habits
